State Representative Martin McLaughlin Statement After Gov. Pritzker Signs Largest Budget in State History

LAKE BARRINGTON, IL — State Representative Martin McLaughlin (R-Lake Barrington) released the following statement Tuesday after Governor Pritzker signed Illinois FY2027 State Budget, the largest spending plan in state history.

“Pritzker and his minions sprained their elbows once again, patting themselves on the back with another budget that includes $800 Million more in tax hikes and spending than the year before. He boldly exclaimed, ‘This budget is balanced’, while the media sits silently never mentioning his administration’s spending.

If you don’t believe what he’s done, you feel it at the pump, in your property tax bill, every time you watch Netflix, purchase tires, buy cryptocurrency, buy a bucket of paint, or pay college tuition and so much more.

The session there was very little that I agreed on in the budget, but there are two points. One is the cell phone security protocols protecting our children and statutes related to cyber bullying.

Over the past seven years 57 individual line item taxes he has implemented over his seven years and raised all of our taxes by $77 billion. And what did we get for that?  Hundreds of businesses leaving the state and the Bears talking about relocating to Indiana.

Congratulations Governor, you’ve grown 4 things since you’ve been in office: our tax burden, government jobs, illegal migrant funding and the profits of U-Haul – as people, families, and businesses leave our one great state.

Lastly to the Governor: Support my HB5797, the Taxpayer Investor Protection Act, and keep the Bears in Illinois!

We can do better. We should do better. We must do better.”
