ILLINOIS – State Representative Martin McLaughlin (R-Barrington Hills) is encouraging residents frustrated with rising property tax bills to review their assessments and take advantage of available appeal resources.
The information Rep. McLaughlin is sharing is designed to help residents better understand the property tax appeal process, including:
- Reviewing assessment notices carefully for errors in property details, square footage, or comparable home values
- Filing an appeal with their County Assessor’s Office before applicable deadlines
- Gathering supporting evidence such as recent sales of similar homes, photos of property issues, or independent appraisals
- Appealing to the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board (PTAB) if a local appeal is denied
