On Sept. 1st, forty-four of the Secretary of State’s busiest drivers services locations will require appointments to eliminate wait times and provide better customer service. Customers will be required to make appointments for in-person visits for REAL IDs, some driver’s licenses and ID card services, and in-car driving tests. All DMVs will have expanded hours on Mon-Fri, 8 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. 16 DMVs will also be open on Sat, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Visit ilsos.gov to learn more about this program and to schedule your appointment. But keep in mind, most ordinary driver’s license renewals and vehicle registrations which don’t require written or behind the wheel tests, or medical/vision test updates can be done online, without needing to visit the DMV!
